about

Once upon a time… before I had any kind of real recording equipment to speak of - I still recorded whenever I could. My friend and one-time brother-in-law John Pepple (RIP) and I did a few woodshed recordings together - actually recorded in a shed (well, tiny cabin) he lived in. I’d haul a recorder of one kind or another to his place, and we’d bang something out. We’d both play horns, or whatever was lying around. The recordings were sub-standard… hell, I didn’t even own a drum set. So I’d borrow a snare from here and record it - then a crash cymbal and record it, etc. One day John came to me with this really simple chord progression, and we just ran with it. It has always stuck with me, so I decided to revisit it. Structurally, it’s almost identical to the original, with a slight alteration to the opening riff built on his progression. Yeah, much of it is a jam with myself - and that’s just fine with me. I’ll leave it to you to figure out what the 14 stands for. Julian knows.

about

Mark Marshall Kingston, New York

Like the other areas of Mark’s life, the music he makes is chameleon-like: wildly diverse, meticulously crafted songs that range from radio-ready pop to hard rock, piano-driven ballads to soundtrack-ish instrumentals, futuristic funk-jazz to clubby techno dance.

“I just want people to feel something when they hear my music...To get as much joy and emotion from it as I felt when I was making it.”
